Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Operation DVD
Operation DVD is an appeal to patriotic Americans to donate their new and used DVDs which are then shipped to our fighting men and women overseas.
Where should I send my DVDs?
Please mail your DVDs or monetary donation to:
Operation DVD
31337 Huron Street
Temecula, CA 92592
Can I send a cash donation for Operation DVD to buy some movies?
Please either use your credit card or mail a check to the address link on the Donation Page.
Why DVDs and not VHS tapes?
DVDs weigh less and will not be as affected by the incredible dust and heat encountered in Iraq and Afghanistan.
What are they going to watch them on?
Most bases have a reinforced recreation room equipped with a Television and DVD player. Similar facilities exist on ships. Soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines (with portable DVD players) will also be able to check DVDs out like a library book (and then return them for another). The project is to ultimately have 200-250 titles in rotation at each base.
What kind of movies do you want?
All types of films — motivational, inspirational and especially films that inspire a sense of family and moral values. Comedies are the most requested.
“Children Titles” donated will be distributed to Servicemen’s families (Stateside) through the Family Readiness Group(s) of the National Guard.
Do the soldiers really have time to watch movies?
When not on duty, there is not much to do (even baseball and softball games are no longer possible because of snipers, mines, bombs and other terrorist activities). Watching DVDs provides a safe wonderful diversion and good memories of home.
Where does my DVD go when I drop it in one of your "Collection Boxes"?
DVDs are forwarded to "Sorting Centers" and then sent to the Troops.
How many DVDs are you anticipating to have donated?
We need a minimum of 1,000,000+ new and used DVDs.
What happens when all of the movies at a base are watched?
At least 250 films will be in rotation at each base in Iraq and Afghanistan. With a constant rotation of soldiers and new films being donated, it will be almost impossible to run out of films.
Can we send music CDs?
We prefer DVDs but many CDs are donated.
Will you sell my E-Mail to outside sources?
Absolutely not! You will, however, be notified of special events and wonderful stories.
How did Operation DVD begin?
Supply Sergeant Darrel Bruner in Baghdad was home on leave. Sgt. Bruner told his Pastor he needed to some paperback books and a few DVDs to take back with him (as there is no entertainment or places to buy things).
The rest is history.
